The Pudding is an AWESOME digital publication that puts out stunning visual essays and data visualizations about a variety of culturally relevant topics. Gayta Science's own Kelsey Campbell recently got the chance to help the incredibly talented Jan Diehm tell a story about queer song lyric representation! As a super fan for years, contributing to this project was an honor and an absolute dream come true! The final product is a creative experience that walks you through all the popular queer songs we could find – from Katy Perry’s 2008 hit “I Kissed a Girl” to Lil Nas X’s recent “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” - and talks about the significance of hearing yourself in music for the first time.
The story even breaks down the gender references in hit songs from top out artists like Cardi B, Demi Lovoto, Lady Gaga, and Halsey. Without spoiling all the surprises, this essay is absolutely BRILLIANT, well-written, creative, powerful, and just FUN. Please check it out and enjoy!!
